|Synopsis|

This is a tale of murder.

Or maybe that’s not quite true. At its heart, it’s a love story, isn’t it?

Lana Farrar is a reclusive ex–movie star and one of the most famous women in the world. Every year, she invites her closest friends to escape the English weather and spend Easter on her idyllic private Greek island.

I tell you this because you may think you know this story. You probably read about it at the time ― it caused a real stir in the tabloids, if you remember. It had all the necessary ingredients for a press a celebrity; a private island cut off by the wind…and a murder.

We found ourselves trapped there overnight. Our old friendships concealed hatred and a desire for revenge. What followed was a game of cat and mouse ― a battle of wits, full of twists and turns, building to an unforgettable climax. The night ended in violence and death, as one of us was found murdered.

The Fury was insanity, in the best way. There were so many layers to it with each Act pulling back the curtain just a little more until we finally saw the whole picture. There was so much depth and many twists and turns that left me shocked and wanting more.

I was not a fan of The Silent Patient. Don’t get me wrong the ending was probably one of the best twists I’ve come across, but it was rough getting there. I didn’t know why I needed care until I did. There is no lack of “why” here. The narrator actually introduces this as a whydunit instead of a whodunit. The why was everything in this book.

The writing in this book was phenomenal. Everything was told from Elliot’s perspective and I liked his little asides that tuned the reader into how unreliable he was or questioning how we maybe felt about him. It was unique and intriguing. Would he be our villain or hero of this tragedy?

The book is set in five different acts, each having a certain goal of something new for the reader to understand about this story. In the first we meet the actors and actresses and see the scene play out as an observer with no biases. The second act is how Elliot observed it all and adds details we didn’t know before. The third act goes into details on Elliot’s life like his childhood and the events leading up to his friendship with Lana. We again get more details and set up to the murder that occurs. The fourth act is the aftermath of the murder. The fifth and final act is a series of twists that leave you reeling.

Even when I thought I knew where the story was going, we’d then get into another act that changed everything I thought I knew yet again. I cannot recommend The Fury enough and if you’re someone who loves a good mystery, this is the book for you.
